Pelta™


The Pelta™ technology is based on the standard 2D codebut extends the capability of the 2D code by adding a second layer of information. The second layer is hidden and invisible to the standard 2D code reader. The second layer of data is encrypted in a proprietary format. The covertlayer can only be decrypted by PageMark’s mobile or PC software using a custom key, thus can be used as a basis of authenticationor track and trace solution.


The licensee of Pelta™ can use the custom software for internal use and consumers may make use of a scanner application on their smartphone to authenticate the document or product.


The overt layer of information is read identically to standard 2D codes (i.e. QR, Data Matrix, Aztec, Maxicode, DotCode and others). This first layer of information is easily accessible and includes logistical or marketing information, easily read by scanner applications on a smartphone. Social media and mobile advertising have the highest growth, especiallyamong Gen-Xand Y consumers. Implementing a channel marketing strategy that leverages these mediums is likely to provide a good return on investment.


Holograms/demetalised films


Demetalisationis the selective removal of metal from a metalisedfilm, which provides a level of security for high-valuedocuments and products. Recent advances in this technology allow a dramatic increase in the realisable resolution of the demetalisedpatterns, creating security features that extend well beyond the naked human eye into microscopic resolutions.


Herein lies the security feature of this product. Demetalised films along with colourstamping and serialisedholography are all variations of holography, which is a core anti-copy technology that has been in existence for over 20 years.


Many brands, especially in the software industry, use holography of a logo for anti-counterfeiting purposes. Government and educational institutions also benefit from the use of holograms to authenticate high-valuedocuments such as IDs, vehicle registrations and graduation certificates.


Security printing


Using one method of security printing is not sufficient in today’s environment. Numerous security methodsare used to protect and authenticate one product or document. Hidden messages or images are a good deterrent, but these same deterrents may not be known to the consumer to validate the product. Optical validation methods such as serialisedholography can provide a good foundation for anti-copying. When the Pelta™ code is added to these other features, a higher level of security can be achieved.
